Here is a dual in-line package crystal oscillator that will generate RF on popular frequency
of 3.686 MHz in the 80m amateur band. Add your 5 volt DC supply at about 20-50 mA, a key and
an anetnna and you will be on the air with QRPp power and absolute minimum parts count!
Construction plans are available on line... see below.
Crystal stability means you will have no drift, chirp or yoop with this tiny silver rig.
Even use it as a driver for a more powerful RF final. Strictly speaking, you should add
a PI network or other matching circuit between the output pin and antenna for correct
antenna matching and to attenuate the harmonics, but I doubt that you would cause much QRM
with this multi-milliwatter package. Has approx. 10 to 20 mW output. Add a few parts like the one
shown above (Jersey Fireball, kit no longer offered) and you will have a fine little QRP rig.
You will not be the first to have made real CW contacts with a few milliwatts of power!
An experimenter's delight for the ham bands with four pins - ground, +5V and output etc.
PIN CONNECTIONS:
#1 No Connection
#7 Case Ground
#8 Output
#14 + 5 Volts supply
Dimensions in mm:
Plenty available now for $1.00 each or TEN for just $6.00 plus shipping!
N.B. This is just for the oscillator parts - the other parts, case etc. are up to you.
SCHEMATICS:
Here is a little Beacon transmitter using a similar 4-pin oscillator.
Here is a similar 160m design with a push-pull RF
final that could easily be adapted.
5 Watt version - similarly adapting the TTL signal from NAND gates with added boots.
Here is the JERSEY FIREBALL - a multiband TTL oscillator rig with a nice matching circuit you can copy, as shown above.
